In June 2022, the new House of Commons Standing Committee on Science and Research released a report titled "Successes, Challenges, and Opportunities for Science in Canada." The Committee heard witnesses who spoke about the strength of Canada's science and research sector and discussed the challenges Canada faces with increasing international competition. The Committee compiled the extensive evidence and released 13 recommendations for the Government of Canada. A section of the report, "Revitalization of Graduate and Postdoctoral Scholarships", provided two recommendations for graduate student and postdoctoral scholar funding: Recommendation 7: That the Government of Canada increase the number of scholarships and fellowships to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers and increase their value by 25% and index it to the consumer price index. Recommendation 8: That the Government of Canada index science funding, including the value of scholarships and fellowships to graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, to the consumer price index on an ongoing basis.
